The biggest bettors lose the most, gambling stats reveal

Getting told the odds are stacked hasn’t stopped a single gambler from trying his luck at the tables. But just in case you’re the first person undecided about going all-in on a trip to the casino, the Wall Street Journal has analyzed some figures that might dissuade you. A database of anonymous records of more than 4,000 gamblers who wagered on games such as blackjack, roulette and slots for at least four days on the Bwin online gambling site showed that while on any given day the chances aren’t bad, over the full period just 11 percent of players ended up in the black, and most of those pocketed less than $150.

And heavy bettors, those placing the most wagers, did the worst, with 95 percent losing money. In the end, the biggest losers (of $5,000 or more) outnumbered big winners 128-1. One man in the database lost on 84 percent of the days he gambled, and dumped $110,000 in two years. And the online casinos don’t even have a buffet where you can eat away your sorrows. [Source]
